Questions people ask
Can I still buy a Marketplace plan on an E-2 or H-1B visa in 2027?
Yes, as long as you remain lawfully present. You just will not get the premium tax credit. Plans are guaranteed-issue regardless of health history.
Is the full price the same on HealthCare.gov and directly from the insurer?
For the same plan, yes. The premium is filed with regulators. Buying on the exchange keeps your options open if your status changes mid-year, for example if your green card is approved.
What if my green card is approved during 2027?
Report it to the Marketplace the same day. You become an eligible alien and the subsidy can start the following month.
Are short-term plans or health-sharing ministries a good alternative?
Be careful. They can exclude pre-existing conditions, cap benefits, and are not ACA coverage. Compare the total cost, not just the premium.
