How the ACA subsidy calculator works
This free ACA subsidy calculator estimates your 2026 premium tax credit (APTC) and your real monthly cost for Marketplace health insurance. Enter your ZIP code, household size and ages, and estimated annual income, and it applies the IRS subsidy formula using current Federal Poverty Level guidelines and live plan prices for your area.
What you'll need
- • Your ZIP code (to find plans and rating area in your county)
- • Household size and the age of each person who needs coverage
- • Estimated annual household income (MAGI) for the coverage year
How your subsidy is determined
Your subsidy equals the benchmark (second-lowest-cost Silver) plan premium minus your expected income-based contribution. Lower incomes get larger credits, and incomes between 100% and 250% of the Federal Poverty Level also unlock Silver cost-sharing reductions. Learn more about how ACA subsidies work.
Subsidy calculator FAQ
How is my ACA subsidy calculated?
Your premium tax credit (subsidy) is the cost of the second-lowest-cost Silver plan in your area minus the amount you are expected to contribute based on your income and household size. This calculator runs that IRS formula using current Federal Poverty Level guidelines and live Marketplace plan prices for your ZIP code.
What income should I enter?
Use your estimated annual household Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) for the coverage year — roughly your adjusted gross income plus any tax-exempt interest and Social Security. Include the income of everyone on your tax return.
Is the subsidy calculator free?
Yes. The PlanVoyager ACA subsidy calculator is completely free, requires no sign-up, and does not sell your information. It uses official CMS plan data and IRS subsidy methodology.
Does the calculator show my real monthly cost?
Yes. After estimating your premium tax credit, it shows your net monthly premium (premium minus subsidy) for every Marketplace plan available where you live, so you can compare your actual out-of-pocket cost.
